Michael J. Fevola of East Meadow, NY was born in Brooklyn on April 7, 1920 to Justine DeRosa Fevola and Louis Fevola. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Betty Treppedi Fevola (June 27, 1948). Predeceased by three brothers, Pat Fevola, Frank Fevola and Anthony Fevola.
Fevola was a loving and devoted husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, and a wonderful, kind, humble and generous man who will be sorely missed. He is now in the hands of God!
He is survived by his four Children, Linda Svitic and David, Joyce Fanelli and John, Gary Fevola and Karen, Joanne Martin and Paul. Nine Grandchildren, Kim Svitic Gilby and George, Eric Svitic and Ilaria, John Fanelli and Joelle , Michael Fanelli and Kristy and Christine Fanelli. Michelle Fevola and Greg Fevola, Alyssa Martin and Paul Martin IV. Six Great-Grandchildren, James and Ava Gilby, Isabella and Nikolai Svitic, Liliana and Sophia Fanelli.
Michael J. Fevola served in the US Army Air Forces during WWII with the 308th BG, 375th BS, 14th Air Force in China. He flew multiple “Hump” supply runs and 21 Combat missions as a top turret gunner on a B-24 named “American Beauty”. S/SGT Fevola was awarded the The Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal and The Asia-Pacific Service Medal w/ 1 Silver Star and 1 Bronze Star. Among Fevola’s other decorations were The American Defense Ribbon and The Good Conduct Medal. His official record noted he participated in The China Offensive, India Burma, South Philippines, Luzon, Western Pacific and China Defense Campaigns.
Fevola worked for Seversky/Republic Aviation in Farmingdale before and after WWII, retiring from Fairchild/Republic Aviation in 1984. He remained active at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Mike was a member of the funeral home honor guard for nine years with American Legion Post 1082 and a member of VFW Post 2736 in East Meadow. While an active member of the 14th Air Force Association he attended many re-unions in Washington DC and attended regular meetings of the Long Island Chapter of the Fairchild-Republic Retirees Club.
For ten years he volunteered as a docent at the Cradle of Aviation Museum at the old Mitchel (Field) Air Force Base in Garden City where the 90-plus year-old Flying Tiger captivated young schoolchildren with his softly spoken stories and tales of life as a World War II top turret gunner, above the clouds in the hostile skies of China.
Visiting will be Saturday, March 4 from 7 - 9PM and Sunday, March 5 from 2-4 & 7-9PM at N. F. Walker Funeral Home 2039 Merrick Avenue, Merrick, NY.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:45 am on Monday, March 6 at Sacred Heart R. C. Church, 720 North Merrick Avenue, North Merrick, NY
